A Word of Encouragement – “Soon, Serious, and Sensational”

Questions for Discussion:
Reread 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11

  1. What is the most pressing need in your life today? Does this immediate need ever crowd out the urgency of the Gospel? If so, how?
  2. What does it mean that, as Bonhoeffer wrote, “God is entirely in earnest”? In what ways do we play at spiritual things rather than taking them seriously?
  3. Sometimes Christians mistakenly believe that our ultimate end will be cloud-sitting and harp-playing for all eternity. (Sounds boring!) What does Scripture teach us we have to look forward to when the “day of the Lord” arrives? You may want to reread 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 and read John 14:1-3, 2 Corinthians 5:1-5, 2 Peter 3:13, and Revelation 21:1-5 to help in your discussion.
